Estonia's IT infrastructure receives Europe's highest recognition

Estonia, long at the forefront of the world in IT solutions, has now officially joined the best in IT infrastructure as well. Today saw the conclusion of an audit that began at the planning stage and lasted almost three years, recognising the Baltics' largest data center with the EN 50600 certificate, which confirms that the complex meets the highest international standards. It is the only data center of its kind in the Baltics and Finland. For businesses here it means a more competitive and future-proof foundation on which to grow.

Accepting the certificate today, Tõnu Grünberg, CEO of Greenergy Data Centers, explained that in an era when our lives and businesses are moving ever further online, and every bit and byte on the internet has to physically live somewhere, the role of IT infrastructure keeps growing. "A data center is, by its nature, a foundation. IT equipment, and the e-services that reach millions of users from it, stand on that foundation. The stronger, safer and more resilient it is, the more reliable our future," Grünberg added.

Kristjan Järvan, Minister of Entrepreneurship and Information Technology, who recognised Greenergy Data Centers for developing Estonia's IT infrastructure, said that an internationally competitive e-Estonia undoubtedly needs a rock-solid foundation alongside its smart workforce and world-changing software. "Awarding the EN 50600 certificate to the region's largest data center confirms that Estonia's digital success story rests on a strong base and that progress is happening evenly across different fields. It improves the prospects of companies expanding from here into the world and makes our business environment more attractive to foreign companies and new investment," Järvan commented.

According to the German company that audited the data center, TÜV Informationstechnik GmbH (TÜVIT, Member of the TÜV NORD GROUP), EN 50600 is the first and only European standard that looks at the planning, construction and operation of a data center as a whole. "It sets clear requirements for power, cooling, security and communications systems and for the building itself. It also frames the operation of the data center around best practice. We have certified hundreds of data centers and I am happy to confirm that Greenergy Data Centers is among the best of them," explained Joachim Faulhaber, head of the data center evaluation department. Keeping data in an EN 50600-certified data center also ensures compliance with the EU environmental impact requirements that tighten in two years' time.

Greenergy Data Centers is the largest, most secure and most energy-efficient data center in the Baltics. The first building holds equipment covering the area of two football pitches, and the complex's electricity connections could power an average Estonian town.

The construction of the Greenergy Data Centers facility outside Tallinn was financed by the Three Seas Initiative Investment Fund, whose investors include the Republic of Estonia.
