Playtech reduces its environmental footprint with the help of our data center

Playtech, the world's largest developer of gaming software, is significantly upgrading its IT infrastructure to reach carbon neutrality by 2040. To get there, the company with Estonian roots is renewing the IT equipment its business runs on and moving a substantial part of the server rooms of its Estonian development center into the largest data center in the Baltics.

For Playtech, with more than 7,000 employees worldwide and a turnover of 1.6 billion (2022), this means a substantial reduction in its ecological footprint and a boost to the energy efficiency and reliability of its business. Given the constant growth in demand for digital services, which consume natural resources in the physical world just the same, sustainability has become a cornerstone of internet-based business.
According to Tõnu Grünberg, CEO of Greenergy Data Centers, the partnership with Playtech is a good example of how innovation benefits both the environment and business. "Since the start of this decade, large IT companies have paid close attention to their environmental footprint, because it has become an inseparable part of successful operations. By providing services from a data center that meets the highest European standards, Playtech moves closer to its sustainability goals. As a modern data center it is our duty to support companies' growth while helping keep their energy consumption as low as possible. We also help our customers meet the sustainability requirements coming into force in the European Union. Working with an absolute world leader like Playtech pushes us to try harder as well," Grünberg commented.
According to Ivo Lasn, Director of Playtech Estonia, it is ultimately businesses that will carry us to ambitious climate goals. "One of the most effective ways to do that is the choice of partners. By preferring energy-efficient service providers we make environmentally friendly choices more attractive across the board and motivate others to look in that direction too. Working with Greenergy Data Centers raises the reliability and energy efficiency of our systems. A commitment to running and growing our business sustainably is part of our competitive edge," Lasn explained.
"So the fact that we provide our services from a data center that runs entirely on electricity from renewable sources, and reuses its waste heat among other things, has a clear business dimension," the Director of Playtech Estonia added.
With its investment in new IT equipment and its choice of data center location, Playtech also reaffirms its ties to Estonia. The company employs more than 700 people here and contributes significantly to the local economy and the development of the IT sector. Its Estonian unit's turnover in 2022 reached 46.8 million euros.
