Zone, Estonia's largest provider of domain and web hosting services, has begun moving its infrastructure to Greenergy Data Centers, the most modern and energy-efficient data center in the Baltics. The biggest effect of the move is a significant reduction in the ecological footprint of hundreds of thousands of internet users.
"As Estonians we can be proud that we breathe some of the cleanest air in the world today, but we have to work to keep it that way," said Ardi Jürgens, Zone's development manager. According to a 2023 study by the Swiss environmental organisation IQAir, Estonia is one of seven countries in the world with the planet's cleanest air. "By moving our equipment to an energy-efficient data center running on green energy, we help reduce the environmental impact of our operations. That way every user of our services contributes to a cleaner future, and cleaner air," Jürgens said.
Over its 25 years in business Zone has become a leader in its field, whose choices affect a large part of society. "The energy consumption of our fleet of nearly a thousand active devices is, unfortunately, colossal. Switching to green energy and higher energy efficiency reduces our ecological footprint considerably," Jürgens added.
Kert Evert, CEO of Greenergy Data Centers, stressed that the data center uses only renewable energy. "Energy efficiency and renewable energy are inseparable parts of a modern data center. We have created an environment where companies like Zone can offer their hundreds of thousands of customers, and the millions of users of their websites, services that are both reliable and environmentally friendly," Evert said.
Beyond reducing environmental impact, moving into the Greenergy data center also helps Zone raise the reliability and security of its services. "The changed security environment and the European Union's directives on digital services and cybersecurity require companies to act responsibly and manage risk more consciously. Our cooperation with Greenergy lets us meet those requirements and give our customers even greater confidence," Jürgens noted.
The cooperation between Zone and Greenergy strengthens the foundation of business continuity for society as a whole. Every user of Zone's services can be sure that their websites and services run on secure infrastructure that contributes to protecting the environment.
